Guang Yu (Beijing)
Guang Yu is an art director and graphic designer from Beijing, and also a member of “Alliance Graphic International” as well as a co-founder of the MEWE design alliance with Liu Zhizhi and He Jun. His works have been awarded for Merit Award at the D&AD (England), TDC Prize at the Tokyo Type Directors Club (Japan), 2 Silver and 1 Bronze at the Hong Kong Designers Association Design Show (Hong Kong), Great Award of GDC11 (China) and etc. He also had been a jury member of contests such as Tokyo Type Directors Club (Japan), China Design Exhibition (China) and GDC (China), and held "D-DAY"CAFA Art Museum (China) in 2010, being the curator of "China Design Exhibition" and also other activities. Furthermore, he also works for brand design and also their activities such as Coca-Cola, Nike and Adidas.
LAVA (Amsterdam & Beijing)
Lava is an Amsterdam based design agency, founded in 1990. They have strong roots in editorial design, which has trained to work as visual storytellers. Over the years, this approach has lead to a unique approach to identity- and interaction design. Céline Lamée, the design director of Lava, as the representative to be a jury member, is co-founder of the Beijing office. She established the project 'Mobile Design Agency', which awarded for Most Creative Project and exhibited in Manchester, Venice Bienale and Shanghai. Lava Beijing works on a lot of cultural projects in China, they connect eastern and western visual culture in an interesting way. Among their clients are Beijing Design Week, French, Swiss, Australian and Dutch Embassy, Sanlitun Taikoo Li, Moscow Design Museum, It can be taking on local hutong areas as well as big events all over China.
Steffen Knöll (Germany)
Steffen Knöll was born and raised in Stuttgart, a city in the south of Germany, where he is currently studying communication design at the State Academy of Art and Design.
His works mostly involve identity, exhibition and environmental design with huge passion for posters. His works have been awarded several times, e.g. Taipei Mayor Award at the Taipei International Design Award, GoldenFix Award at the All Gold of the World Award at the Moscow Golden Bee Global Biennale Graphic Design 2016 and was selected several times for the TDC Tokyo Award, the international exhibition at the International Biennial of Graphic Design Brno 2016, the International Poster Competition Chaumont 2017 and the 100 Best Posters of Austria, Germany and Switzerland competition and other biennials and exhibitions around the world.
In the near future Steffen Knöll will curate the first poster exhibition of contemporary posters from the Stuttgart design scene.
Works should be submitted with payment finished before 23:59 28th August 2017 in Macau Time (GMT +08:00) in person or by courier. Overdue submission will not be accepted.
Please complete the attached Entry Form and confirm the information of the works as long as the Entrant. The Entry Data Label must be completed and placed on lower right corner of the back of each entry. (For 3D works, please select appropriate place for label).
All works along with the Entry Form, payment receipt and their image files restored in a CD should be submitted following to the Final Assessment Specifications and put into an envelope for the convenience of publication.
All entries must be appropriately packed according to the categories with relevant category number clearly indicated and placed in the package. The copy of the Entry Form should be put on the back of the whole package.
The mailing expenses are responsible by the Entrant, freight collect is not accepted.
Works output by the Organizer
Works output by the Organizer is available for Entrant of Student Group. For works chosen to be output by the organizer, Entrant should complete the Entry Form and confirm the information of the works as long as the Entrant. Image files and the Entry Form should be submitted to firstname.lastname@example.org according to the Final Assessment Specifications.
Sum of Admission fee
1. Entry must be original work of Applicant; if plagiarizing, counterfeiting or stealing is found, the organizers reserve the right to disqualify the Entrant’s entry; if the entry is already awarded, the reward as well as the award will be cancelled and returned.
2. The Organisers reserve the right of exhibits reproduction for promotional and recording purposes, and publishing exhibits in printed materials and collections of works;
3. When damage due to poor production or transportation that leads to impossible assessment occurred, Entrant will be regarded as abstention;
4. The Organizers will provide proper protect of the entry works, however, full risk and costs including but not limited to losses or potential damage due to theft, fire or transportation should be borne solely and fully by the Entrant;
5. The Organisers reserve the right to enter part of or all entries of shortlisted candidates into other regional or international exhibitions;
6. Entries will not be returned to Applicant;
7. The Organizers will not involved in the assignment of authorities for Entrant in group, including but not limited to the receipt of reward or award;
8. In submitting the Entrant’s Registration Application, the Entrant fully and unreservedly agrees to all the terms, clauses and conditions as above;
9. Organisers reserve right of interpretation and final jurisdiction of rules of this competition.
In order to emphasize the value design contributes to a city, encourage the development of the industry and praise the contribution outstanding designers make for a better life. Every year, the design biennial is composed of jury members from around the world. With the innovative jury members, participants have the opportunity to broaden their horizon and exchange their ideas, exploring possibilities in design and urban development.
Founded by Macau Designers Association, the Macau Design Biennial has been held for ten editions since 1994. Being a highly representative design competition for the Cross-Strait-Four-Regions, it is the only professional competition in Macau design industry. It seeks to present a new approach to spread out a city’s culture to the Cross-Strait-Four-Regions as well as Asia through series activities including: professional competition, awards ceremony, exhibitions, seminars and so on. Through these efforts, it assists local designers to gain international recognition and enable the public to realize the importance of design acting as an essential element in their daily life as well as sustainable economic development, enhancing public’s understanding in the design industry, so as to improve design industry’s professional image.
The “11th Macau Design Biennial” sticks to its tenet: find out talents in Macau, respond actively to the creative cultural policy from Macau government, and set up a cultural exchange platform. Thus, every two years, the Macau Design Biennial bridges Macau and the world enabling Macau to harbour international horizons, which makes Macau as an essential mediator in the communication between the East and the West. The competition attracts participants from around the world, which refreshes the participation record every time. Participant’s works will be judged by professional international jury members with international standard. The award winners will be invited to attend the Grand Awards Ceremony in late 2017 in Macau, with selected and winning works shown at the Handover Gifts Museum of Macau from the day of the Grand Awards Ceremony. Some award-winning art works will comprise part of the permanent collection of the Macau Museum of Art.
Application is open to the public, and designers, design teams or companies as well as students from all over the world can participate. For the student group, entrants must be a current student of a design institution with a registration proof. All work must be created and published no earlier than 1st May 2015 and no later than 14th May 2017. There is no theme restriction.
The award winners will be invited to attend the Grand Awards Ceremony in late 2017 in Macau, with winning works shown at the Handover Gifts Museum of Macau from the day of the Grand Awards Ceremony. Some award-winning art works will comprise part of the permanent collection of the Macau Museum of Art.
Winning art works will be shown at the Handover Gifts Museum of Macau from December 2017 to March 2018.
